UFC 179: Aldo vs Mendes II Pay-Per-View Preview
With last Saturday’s (October 4, 2014) doubleheader in the books, the UFC will have two weeks off before getting back in the swing of things with the anticipated UFC 179 from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The event, which airs live on pay-per-view (PPV) features the awaited rematch between featherweight champion Jose Aldo and No. 1 contender Chad Mendes. Aldo famously knocked Mendes out with one second left in the first round of UFC 142’s main event back in January 2012.
Since then, “Money” has reeled off five consecutive victories, including four stoppages, to earn his second shot at the belt. His rematch with Aldo will be a pivotal one in that the winner will most likely be the next opponent for rising featherweight star Conor McGregor.
And that could be Aldo, the world’s No. 2-ranked pound-for-pound fighter who has defended his belt six times. Many have whispered that the champion has begun to fight too safe in recent bouts in order to keep the belt, so “Junior” has a lot of pressure heading into the bout.
UFC 179 also features a light heavyweight co-main event between No. 4-ranked recent title challenger Glover Teixeira and No. 6 Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis. Check out the UFC’s 179 PPV preview video below:
