UFC 147 Results Recap: Rich Franklin emerges victorious over Wanderlei Silva

5630426529 10941969c2UFC 147 is in the books from Belo Horizonte, Brazil and Rich Franklin versus Wanderlei Silva delivered a good bout, although it may not have been what the Brazilian fans were rooting for.

The first round began with Wanderlei Silva landing a hard right followed by an exchange. Franklin grabbed a kick, then controlled the action against the cage by landing shots. In the second round Franklin continued to stalk his opponent. Wanderlei reversed the action and dropped Franklin, landing some ground-and-pound. Franklin turtled after some hammerfists, but no stoppage was called. The third round began slowly with Ace landing some kicks to the body. Towards the end of the round Franklin took Silva down and scored some points with ground strikes. Franklin came out in the fourth with a good body shot, but was then halted by a low blow. After a break, Franklin recuperated with some good strikes to finish. To begin the final round, showed some mutual respect. Franklin continued to work his boxing with some stiff jabs and a few hooks. Silva mustered a late flurry, but Franklin dropped him to end the final round. In the end, Rich Franklin won a Unanimous Decision in Brazil.

In The Ultimate Fighter:Brazil Middleweight Final, Cezar Ferreira and Sergio Moraes began with an early exchange. Ferreira controlled the fight throughout the opening round. In the second, action heated up with Ferreira landing a nice head kick, followed by an impressive wheelkick. Moraes responded with a good flurry. The final round saw the fighters circling to begin, with Ferreira rocking his opponent at the end to win another Unanimous Decision and the UFC contract.

The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil Featherweight Final between Godofredo Pepey and Rony Jason began with a wild striking exchange. Jason scored a takedown and stopped a kimura attempt by Pepey. Jason grabbed a body kick from Pepey in the second, and more wild boxing ensued. The two fighters circled and Jason landed an effective right hand. Two low blows halted the third round, with Jason landing another right hand. The fight ended with a scramble. Rony Jason earned the Unanimous Decision and the 145 lb. UFC contract.

Brazilian favorite Fabricio Werdum came out to face Mike Russow in a Heavyweight affair. It was not to last long as Werdum came out aggressively with some good punches, and also utilized his Muay Thai knees. Werdum rocked Russow with a hard right uppercut and followed on the ground with relentless strikes. The ref called a stoppage via TKO at 2:28 in first round. An impressive showing for Werdum, who looks to eventually avenge a 2008 loss to current Heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos.

Yuri Alcantara and Hacran Dias fought on the ground in the first round, with Dias notching a nice double leg slam. He rained down some elbows and punches from the top. The second round found Alcantara trying for the takedown, but Dias reversed and put his opponent into the guard. Alcantara tried an armbar from the bottom but was thwarted. The last round began with Dias landing a good body kick. He got the fight down to the ground for some more ground-and-pound. Alcantara did land some strikes to finish, but it was not enough as Dias took home the Unanimous Decision.
