Tyron Woodley ‘Motivated By Money’ In Light Of KO Bonus
Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has an extra incentive to knock out Jake Paul, and he plans on taking advantage of it.
Woodley will fill in for Tommy Fury on short notice and fight against Paul in a rematch of their bout earlier this year. Woodley has been in a ‘fight camp’ setting since his loss to Paul and had anticipated competing in January or February anyway.
But the stakes have risen ahead of their highly-anticipated rematch. Paul put a clause in the fight contract that if Woodley can knock him out, he’ll get an extra $500,000 on top of his fight purse.
During a pre-fight press conference, Woodley explained why the knockout bonus may be a mistake on Paul’s part.
“At the end of the day, you put a bag on your own head,” Woodley said. “Sh*t, I’m completely all about taking that free money. I had planned on doing that anyway, but if he wants to entice me a little bit more.”
“You don’t offer a kid from Ferguson half a bag to go out there and do what he wanted to do anyway. So it does put motivation. You don’t put a bounty on your own f*cking head and think I’m not going to take it.”
Tyron Woodley Lost A Close Split Decision To Jake Paul Earlier This Year
After getting the infamous “I Love Jake Paul” tattoo days after the fight, it was expected that Paul would give Woodley an immediate rematch. But, he opted to fight Fury instead before he pulled out due to injury.
Paul vs. Woodley 2 will take place on Dec. 18 in Tampa, FL, and is an exciting end to an eventful year in boxing. This time, Woodley is hoping to not only get his hand raised but win some extra cash.
