Two passengers injured in Jon Jones DWI crash
According to police reports obtained by WBNG of Binghamton, New York, UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Jon “Bones” Jones had two female passengers who were injured when he crashed his Bentley into a telephone pole before being arrested for DWI in Binghamton, New York two weeks ago. Both air bags had deployed during the crash.
The two women, both 25, have been identified as Cara Johnson and Michele Vojtisek. Johnson, who attended Union-Endicott High School with Jones, was in the front passenger seat at the time of the crash and suffered a bloody nose, bruises and shoulder pain. Vojtisek sustained bruising and cuts to her face. Both were transported to Wilson Hospital for their injuries.
Jones was uninjured, but according to the arresting officer he had “slurred speech and glassy bloodshot eyes,” smelled of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet when asked to step out of his vehicle. The arresting officer wrote: “There were no skids marks at the scene. It appeared as though Jones was attempting a turn north onto Helen [Street] and miscalculated his turn.”
Binghamton Police Deptartment Captain John Chapman said : “[Jones] politely refused multiple requests to take sobriety and breathalyzer tests at the scene and after he was arrested and taken into custody. Toxicology tests were not conducted, as there were no serious injuries.”
This was not Jones’ first run-in with the law when it comes to driving.
According to Bloodyelbow.com, Jones was cited on November 24, 2011 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for driving with a suspended license in the same Bentley. The charges were dismissed in March for failure to prosecute.
According to that police report: “On 11/24/11 I observed a black Bentley turn Northbound on Jefferson NE from Westbound McCleod NE. The vehicle came around the corner sideways and tires squealing. The vehicle continued North at a high rate of speed and pulled into the Fantasy World parking lot. I conducted as traffic stop and contacted the driver, identified as Jonathan Jones. I ran Jones drivers license through MVD and it was suspended. I then ran his drivers license through NCIC and they confirmed his it was suspended. Jones was cited for loss of traction and suspended drivers license. Jones vehicle was towed from the scene.”
Jones was previously involved in documented multi-vehicle accidents in January 2011 in New Mexico and in New York in December 2008 and January 2009. Jones was not found at fault for any of the accidents, but was cited for “unsafe passing” in the January 2009 collision with his fiancée and newborn daughter in the car with him. None of those accidents involved alcohol consumption, according to the reports
