TUF 24 Finale Preliminary Card Results: Ryan Hall Picks Up Decision Win Over Gray Maynard
It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, December 3rd, 2016) will come in the form of UFC TUF 24 Finale. Headlining the card are Demetrious Johnson and Tim Elliott, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.
Ryan Hall vs. Gray Maynard in a featherweight bout closed the preliminary card on Fox Sports 1. In round 1, Hall trying to grab a leg but Maynard avoids the ground game of Hall early in the round. Maynard throws a huge left hook and whiffs. Hall changes levels and gets a takedown. Hall went for a leglock, but Maynard got out of it and went back to his feet. Hall with a right hand that buckled Maynard’s legs for a flash. Hall clearly wanted to go to the ground, but Maynard was having one of it. In round 2, Hall continued to pull guard, and Maynard just wanted to scrap. Maynard started to get frustrated. Hall pulled guard, went for a leglock but Maynard got out it. Not a lot of action. In round 3, Hall rolls and gets a hold of Maynard’s legs and complains to the ref about something. Hall landed a kick then tried to take him down again. Hall was the more active fighter. They go the distance. Hall won the fight by decision.
Rob Font vs. Matt Schnell was next in a bantamweight bout. Font took him down and got his back within the first minute of the round. Schnell scrambled to his feet, and they went back to striking moments later. Font landed a big head kick that stunned Schnell but he stayed in the pocket, and they exchanged. Font landed a huge knee and dropped him then landed some big strikes to end the fight.
Dong Hyun Kim vs. Brendan O’Reilly was next in a lightweight bout. In round 1, O’Reilly clinched with him, but Kim took him down and worked him over with strikes. O’Reilly scrambled to his feet but was taken down again. Kim landed an illegal knee but it wasn’t called. Kim took his back late in the round and worked him over with strikes. Kim continued to land strikes while O’Reilly just tried to survive. In round 2, Kim took him down again to begin the round. O’Reilly with the sweep and looked to get back control but Kim wiggles out and is on top in half guard now. Kim was the stronger of the two and held him down. O’Reilly went for a Kimura now, but Kim gets out and passes to full mount. In round 3, Kim clinched with him and pressed him up against the fence. O’Reilly landed a series of knee strikes. O’Reilly was also landed some big elbows while in this position. Not good defense by Kim. Kim took him down with less than a minute left in the round and got mount. O’Reilly scrambled and got on top to end the round. Kim got the decision win.
Kailin Curran vs. Jamie Moyle in a women’s strawweight bout opened the Fox Sports 1 preliminary bouts. In round 1, Moyle with the immediate takedown and is working from Curran’s full guard. Curran would get back to her feet, and they exchanged to end the round. In round 2, Curran’s range striking is definitely a lot sharper and more diverse. Curran is having a hard time catching Moyle on the way in and out. Moyle isn’t dominating, but she’s definitely in control Curran was mixing up her strikes and kicks well. Moyle slammed her down to the ground, but a cut above her right eye was bleeding bad. In round 3, Moyle clinched with her and used some dirty boxing, but Curran took advantage of it and took her down. Moyle got up to her feet, but Curran landed an illegal knee. We get back to action after the quick break. Moyle clinched with her and landed some knees. Moyle scored a takedown to end the round and won the fight by decision.
Elvis Mutapcic vs. Anthony Smith in a middleweight bout finished off the UFC Fight Pass preliminary card. In round 1, Mutapcic pressed forward early and was throwing some head kicks. Smith answered with his own. Mutapcic took him down with a trip and got half guard and worked him over with strikes and some nasty elbows. Smith was just covering up and trying to survive. He was in guard at this time. Mutapcic ended the round on top. In round2, Smith looks rejuvenated in this round. Looks like he has Mutapcic dazed a bit already landing some big strikes. Smith stunned him with three jabs, and now Mutapcic is bleeding from the side of his head. Nasty cut. Smith dropped him with an elbow and finished him on the ground with strikes.
Opening the UFC Fight Pass prelims was Devin Clark vs. Josh Stansbury in a light heavyweight bout. In round 1, Clark closed in and clinched with him up against the fence right out of the gate. Halfway through the round, Clark times a good takedown and gets Stansbury to the ground. Working from half guard now. Stansbury gets back up but eats some shots as he does. Clark presses him up against the fence and works him over with strikes. Stansbury dropped down and went for a guillotine but couldn’t get it, and Clark survived. In round 2, Clark opened up with a front face kick. Stansbury clinches with him and tries to kick the legs from under Clark. He couldn’t get, and they started exchanging. Two big right hands land for Stansbury but Clark responds with a few big shots of his own. In round 3, Stansbury ducks in for a single leg behind a hook, but didn’t get nearly enough drive on the takedown. Clark clinches with him and lands some shots. Clark had about a 40% more strikes thrown than Sansbury in this fight. Clark picked up the unanimous decision victory.
