Trevor Smith Drops & Controls Joseph Gigliotti In Decision Win

Joseph Gigliotti (7-1) made his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debut in Salt Lake City, Utah. His opponent was Trevor Smith (14-6). The two fighters competed in the middleweight division.

“Hot Sauce” was too much for the newcomer.

Gigliotti was hit with a punch early in the first round. Gigliotti pressed Smith against the fence, but “Hot Sauce” reversed the position. Smith brought his opponent down and briefly had side control. They returned standing with Smith holding Gigliotti against the fence. Referee Dan Miragliotta separated the two and gave Smith a final warning on putting his fingers through the holes in the cage. “”Hot Sauce” had a guillotine, but Gigliotti escaped. Smith threw an illegal knee on a downed opponent, but it was blocked. The round ended with Smith in a dominant position.

Gigliotti was dropped by a knee early in round two. “Hot Sauce” earned back mount. Smith dropped some punches on his bloodied opponent. Smith remained in control the entire round, landing some punches and even going for a D’Arce choke before the round ended.

Right out the gate, Gigliotti swung for the fences, but he was easily taken down. He got back to his feet, but “Hot Sauce” stuck to him. The two separated and Smith popped his opponent with a jab. Gigliotti landed an uppercut in the clinch. It didn’t take long for Smith to score another takedown. He moved to mount and landed some elbows. The final horn fired and the decision was clear.
