Top 10 UFC Moments of 2012
2012 is now behind us, with many great MMA moments that will be remembered for years to come.
Fuel TV presented their list of top 10 moments of 2012, featuring knockouts, submissions, and Chael Sonnen vs. Anderson Silva II. Next year is expected to deliver more excitement, with many superfights currently being labelled as ‘in the works’. Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar will take place on February 2nd, and will be the first mega card to take place in 2013. Rashad Evans vs. Little Nog is the co-main event, while Alistair Overeem takes on Antonio Silva with sights on facing Cain Velasquez for the title.
So what was your favorite UFC moment in 2012? Here’s my list, divided into ‘The Good, The Great, The Bad, and The Ugly’. Happy New Year!
The Good: Georges St. Pierre’s return to the UFC Octagon was definitely a good thing not only for the UFC, but also for the world of Mixed Martial Arts. Interestingly enough, GSP’s performance against Carlos Condit was also ‘good’, but definitely not ‘great’.
The Great: I think it’s rather easy to say that Anderson Silva’s neverending path of destruction was the greatest thing in 2012. However, I feel that Junior dos Santos’ Rocky-esque performance against Cain Velasquez last Saturday was a showstopper. Dos Santos comes out to Rocky music, and fights ’til the very end like a true champion he is. That was truly inspiring, and a great memory to take from 2012.
The Bad: Injuries, postponed fights, injuries, cancelled fights, injuries, cancelled events. Enough said.
The Ugly: I think the way Strikeforce went out of business was ugly. I really enjoyed their production. In my humble opinion, Strikeforce presented an interesting alternative to the UFC, with many entertaining fights and fighters with character. Let’s see what Bellator can do in 2013.
