Tony Ferguson Teases Move To Welterweight

Despite an amazing 11-fight win streak, Tony Ferguson has been unable to land an undisputed lightweight title fight.

He was recently offered another interim bout, but the deal didn’t live up to his financial standards. As a result, he turned it down and the fight was given to Dustin Poirier. “The Diamond” will face featherweight champion Max Holloway for the interim strap.

Ferguson took to Instagram today (Wed. March 6, 2019) and teased a jump up to 170 pounds:

“Time to put on some serious muscle. 170lbs —>195lbs”

El Cucuy” has racked up wins over the likes of Edson Barboza, Rafael dos Anjos, Kevin Lee, and Anthony Pettis. He has yet to share the cage against recent champions such as Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov. Should Ferguson make the move up to welterweight, it won’t be an unfamiliar weight class.

He won The Ultimate Fighter Season 13 (TUF 13) back in 2011 at 170 pounds.
