TJ Dillashaw To Dominick Cruz: ‘I’m Coming For You’
Coming off of his dominant victory over No. 3-ranked Raphael Assuncao at UFC 200, former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw is ready to jump back inside the Octagon for a chance at the gold he once held so proudly around his waist.
With such a masterful victory over Assuncao this past Saturday (July 9, 2016), Dillashaw made quite the case for a rematch with current 135-pound champion Dominick Cruz in the near future.
The pair of bantamweight studs originally met this past January with the then-champion Dillashaw welcoming back the injury ridden Cruz, after a lengthy layoff from Octagon action due to a string of unfortunate injuries, in a five round title war for the title Cruz never lost upon his departure from competition in 2014.
After a great back-and-forth contest between the two world class bantamweights, the judges would score the bout in favor of Cruz via a split decision as ‘The Dominator’ would reclaim his place at the top of the 135-pound throne.
Now each man has secured another tally under their win columns since the title meeting, as Dillashaw now owns a win over Assuncao, and Cruz successfully defended his title for the first time in nearly five years against hated rival Urijah Faber at UFC 199 in May.
Following his thrashing of Assuncao Saturday night Dillashaw spoke to the media, courtesy of MMA Junkie, to state that he is ready to once again take a crack at the bantamweight legend Cruz, reclaiming his title in the process:
“He knows I won that fight,” Dillashaw said. “It’s funny. After the fight, I watch the behind-the-scenes cornerman (video).
After the fourth round going into the fifth, his cornerman were telling him that I won the fight, that he has to finish me, and after the fight he tells me, ‘Hey man, I didn’t do too bad.’
And his coaches were telling my coaches I won that fight.
So they all know that I won the fight, but they want to act like they’re all champs afterward. But just don’t run too much – I’m coming for you.”
Fans on social media where scattered with their respective scoring of the bout, however, the majority did seem to agree that Cruz had emerged the victor. Do you believe Cruz won the first meeting, and will the result be the same in a potential second showdown between the two?
