TJ Dillashaw Claims Bantamweight Needs Him, Wants Title Shot Upon Return
TJ Dillashaw will be shelved for the next year and a half after receiving a two-year suspension earlier this year. Dillashaw tested positive for EPO after his first-round TKO loss to Henry Cejudo in January for the 125-pound title.
Now, Dillashaw will sit until 2021 after openly admitting to looking for a competitive edge. In a recent interview with reporter Helen Yee, Dillashaw discussed the 135-pound division without him, claiming the weight class needs him to come back and create some tension. (H/T BJPenn.com)
“That bantamweight division needs me back,” Dillashaw said. “They need the entertainment back and they need me to come back and throw some wrinkles in the weight class and create some tension.”
Dillashaw continued by saying he believes he should get an immediate title opportunity upon his return from suspension, because he never lost the title, but instead had to relinquish it.
“Me. When I come back. That’s why they need me back, they need someone to cause some fire, cause some rift. That is my weight class, I had to give that belt up and fair enough, I understand,” TJ Dillashaw said. “I f****d up, and I had to relinquish it. But, I didn’t lose. That’s my belt, I’m still calling it my belt. I’m still the champion of the world. When I come back I will reclaim it.”
Do you think Dillashaw should get a title shot upon his return to the Octagon?
