Tim Kennedy’s tweet suggest Strikeforce fighters faked injuries
When the final Strikeforce card began to fall apart due to injuries, it lost the “Champions” title it was tagged with. First lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez fell off the card and then middleweight title holder Luke Rockhold withdrew. It wasn’t so much of a shock as the past few months have seen its fair share of MMA events ravaged by injuries. But Strikeforce middleweight contender Tim Kennedy isn’t buying the injuries that have knocked fighters off of the company’s last event. The army sniper — who faces Trevor Smith at the Strikeforce event — took to his Twitter account to put his thoughts into the atmosphere.
“I guess I should pullout of my last @Strikeforce fight due to “injury” so I can have a for sure ride to the @ufc #NotHowiRoll,” the 33-year-old tweeted.
Although he didn’t say any names, it’s pretty apparent that he’s suggesting that perhaps one of the two champions are faking an injury in order to preserve their future in the UFC. He isn’t the first to suggest this as Rockhold’s original opponent, Lorenz Larkin, also implied that Rockhold just might be embellishing on his injury so he won’t have to risk a loss that could damage his middleweight standing. Melendez has been recovering slowly from a shoulder injury that forced him to pull out of his fight with Pat Healy on two occasions. The first being for the September card that was subsequently canned. Meanwhile, Rockhold has a wrist injury that saw his fight with Larkin get pulled. Kennedy’s last fight just so happened to be against Rockhold in July where he dropped a unanimous decision.
