Three Bouts You Don’t Want To Miss At UFC Fight Night 45
UFC Fight Night 45 will go down this evening (Wednesday July 16, 2014) in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and will present a host of potentially awesome fights for the fans. The Fight Night series of cards has given us some real burners this year, and has helped bring Fight Pass in to the limelight. Take a look at the three bouts you don’t want to miss at Fight Night 45:
Gleison Tibau vs. Pat Healy
The feature prelim bout of the evening is an intriguing lightweight battle between veterans Gleison Tibau and Pat Healy, who have a combined total of 87 pro fights. Strikeforce veteran ‘Bam Bam’ has his back against the wall after three straight losses, and he has his hands full with the Brazilian ATT product tonight.
Tibau has fought for the UFC since 2006, beating Rafael dos Anjos, Jeremy Stephens, Caol Uno and Jamie Varner, among others. A recent TKO loss to Michael Johnson could well make this fight a do-or-die for both men. This often leads to more risk being taken, and the likelihood of a finish is therefore increased. My pick? Pat Healy takes this one by TKO
Lucas Martins vs. Alex White
Opening the main card for the evening is another matching of Brazilian and American combatants, as undefeated ‘Spartan’ takes on 14-1 Chute Box phenom Lucas Martins. ‘Mineiro’ has flown under a lot of fan’s radars for a long time, but I’ve had my eye on him since his Jungle Fight days. Bouncing from lightweight, then bantamweight, and now featherweight, the young Brazilian has certainly done the rounds.
In White we have a submission fighter, with knockout ability, and his 10-0 record speaks for itself. In what could be a ‘coming of age’ bout for both men, I expect fireworks from the jump. The result? I’d say Martins wins with an early knockout.
Not often do I make these sorts of predictions before bouts, but I honestly feel that Cerrone/Miller has all the makings for fight of the year, let alone fight of the night. The styles are almost tailor made for each other, these guys live to finish fights, Miller has that gritty in your face aggression, and ‘Cowboy’ has laser accurate Muay Thai capabilities.
Where will this fight take place? I think it could go anywhere. These are two well rounded, versatile and dangerous lightweights with a wealth of experience between them. You already know I picked Cerrone for the third round TKO win against Miller, but don’t be surprised if this is a bloody five round war!
