Thomas Almeida Gets Anthony Birchak At UFC Fight Night 77
Rising bantamweight prospect Thomas Almeida recently had a few requests regarding his next fight. The Brazilian slugger expressed his interest in fighting in his home of Brazil at UFC Fight Night 77 in November, and also asked to take on either No. 7-ranked Bryan Caraway, or No. 8-ranked Takeya Mizugaki.
Well, one of Almeida’s wishes has come through. Combate has reported that Almeida will indeed fight at UFC Fight Night 77 in Brazil, but it will be Anthony Birchak who he will take on.
“El Toro” is currently unranked in the 135-pound pound division, but he has won six of his last seven fights, most recently scoring a first-round knockout over former title challenger Joe Soto at UFC Fight Night 68. Prior to that, he dropped a submission loss to Ian Entwistle at UFC on FOX 13 last December, and he will look to put together a winning streak in November.
“Thominhas” currently sits at No. 10 in the division, and is actually a perfect 20-0 in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career with a super impressive 19 finishes. Currently at 3-0 in the Octagon, Almeida is coming off of a spectacular come from behind flying knee knockout over veteran Brad Pickett at July’s UFC 189.
UFC Fight Night 77 is set to air on FOX Sports 1, and is being headlined by a trilogy bout between legends Dan “Hendo” Henderson, and Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort. Check out the full lineup below, and stay tuned to LowKickMMA for all news leading up to the event:
