Thiago Silva tested positive for Marijuana metabolites
Top UFC Light Heavyweight contender, Thiago Silva, has once again failed a drug test in the UFC, this time testing positive for Marijuana metabolites. The test took place post-fight at UFC: Macau, where Silva defeated Stanislav Nedkov via submission.
The result of the fight has been officially overturned by the UFC to a no contest, keeping Silva’s record at 14-3(2). Moreover, Silva has agreed to a drug-rehabilitation course, where he’s most likely to meet Dave Herman, who was also recently tested positive for Marijuana.
Here’s the official statement on ufc.com:
“Thiago Silva tested positive for marijuana metabolites following his bout at UFC on FUEL TV in Macau. The UFC organization has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance-enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents.
Silva has admitted to taking the banned substance and has agreed to participate in an approved drug-rehabilitation program and serve a six-month suspension retroactive to the November 10 event. He must pass a drug test upon completion of the suspension before receiving clearance to fight again.”
This is not the first Thiago Silva is embarrassed by a failed drug test. Silva submitted a fake urine sample after his fight with Brandon Vera, and was suspended for one year by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
The Brazilian heavy-hitter is now without a victory in four consecutive bouts, with 2 losses (Rashad Evans and Alexander Gustafsson) and 2 NC (Vera and Nedkov). Silva last official victory was against Keith Jardine at UFC 102, dating back to 2009. Silva has one fully-approved victory on his record since UFC 94 fight with Lyoto Machida.
