Thiago Silva’s UFC 125 Pre-Fight Drug Test ‘Inconsistent With Human Urine’

Thiago Silva

Reports about Thiago Silva‘s sketchy UFC 125 drug test results have been swirling since last month, and were allegedly the cause for Silva’s removal from a slated bout with Quinton Jackson at UFC 130, as well as Brandon Vera’s sudden un-firing. And even though Silva’s camp promised us that the light-heavyweight’s drug test would come back normal, the Nevada State Athletic Commission is telling a different story today. As the NSAC confirmed with FightersOnly and MMAJunkie, Silva is being accused of supplying a urine sample that was not from a human source.

Prior to his unanimous decision victory over Brandon Vera at UFC 125, Silva was required to submit a urine sample for drug testing. His specimen was analyzed in two different labs, both of which found that his urine “reflect[ed] a Complete-Invalid Result indicating that the specimen submitted by Silva is inconsistent with human urine,” and suggests that the fighter “submitted an adulterated and/or substituted specimen for testing for the urinalysis.”

Silva is suspended until an April 7th hearing in Las Vegas, and will be asked to address the situation then.

If this situation sounds familiar, it’s probably because Kevin Randleman tried to pull the same trick in 2006. Following his submission loss to Mauricio Rua at PRIDE 32, Randleman submitted a urine sample that lacked human hormones. (“It was either allegedly non-human urine or urine from a dead human being,” said NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer.) Randleman admitted that he submitted a fake sample because of the large amounts of painkillers and antibiotics he was taking at the time due to a lung infection, and was suspended from competition for one year.
