The Battle of the Stepping Stones. Brock Lesnar vs Roy Nelson

After his recent loss to the current UFC Heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez, Brock Lesnar is looking to prove himself worthy of another title shot. With Junior Dos Santos next in line for a shot at the belt, Lesnar will have to fight his way back against challenging opponents. However, the question remains, “Who is capable of giving Brock a run for his money?”.

I believe the answer to that is none other than Ultimate Fighter winner, Roy “Big Country” Nelson. Both fighters are coming off big losses to great opponents. Brock was TKO’d by the heavyweight champion and Roy lost via unanimous decision to the top contender in the heavyweight division, Junior Dos Santos. Roy Nelson was announced to fight Brock’s last victim, the heavy-handed Shane Carwin, however in a recent turn of events, Carwin pulled out of the fight due to injuries. Now is the perfect time for Roy Nelson and Brock Lesnar to finally meet in the octagon.

In Lesnars recent fights against Carwin and Velasquez, it is evident that he needs to work on his striking game and in his first submission loss in the UFC to former champion, Frank Mir, it is evident that his ground game isn’t perfect either. Roy Nelson is the perfect opponent to put Lesnar’s weaknesses to the test. Roy Nelson proved his high ranking jiu jitsu skills when he faced BJJ black belt Frank Mir at Grapplers Quest and won. He has proven his viscious power in his hands with knockout victories over Brendan Schaub and Stefan Struve. He also recently faced world class striker, Junior Dos Santos, and went toe to toe with him for three full rounds where he proved his excellent chin and cardio.

A win over former UFC heavyweight champion, Brock Lesnar, would be a huge stepping stone for Roy Nelson in his UFC career and would launch him one step closer to a title shot. However, if Lesnar could overcome all the skills Roy Nelson brings to the table, it could also be a huge step closer on his quest to regain the belt and he would prove himself to all the MMA fans who doubt his abilities.
