Tecia Torres Outworks Michelle Waterson In Detroit
Tecia Torres’ pressure earned her a unanimous decision victory over Michelle Waterson.
The opening main card bout at UFC 218 featured a strawweight bout between Torres and Waterson. The action was held inside Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
Right away, Waterson landed a left high kick. It didn’t stop Torres from pressing forward. She tied up and Waterson reversed a took the back. Torres was able to escape danger. She landed a series of right hands. A couple of knees to the body were there for Torres. She maintained control in the clinch until the horn sounded.
Round two was underway and Torres connected with a right hand over the top. Waterson scored a takedown and Torres attempted to scramble. Waterson ended up gaining full guard. Torres went for a kimura with Waterson in half guard. She couldn’t get it. The round ended with both fighters standing, but Waterson had a significant amount of time in control.
The left eye of Waterson looked to have some heavy swelling going into round three. She landed a right hand over the top. They tied up with Torres pressing her opponent against the fence. Torres connected with an elbow followed by a right hand and a left.
Torres dragged Waterson to the ground and took her back. She was able to flatten out her opponent. Torres dropped some shots with the referee watching closely. Waterson wound up in top control before the final horn sounded.
Final Result: Tecia Torres def. Michelle Waterson via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
