Tecia Torres Controls Angela Hill On Way To Decision Win At UFC 188
The first fight on the main card of UFC 188 in Mexico City, Mexico featured a women’s strawweight matchup between Tecia Torres (6-0) and Angela Hill (2-1). Those who thought the contest would be a standup battle were in for a rude awakening. Instead, Torres cruised to an uneventful decision victory.
Torres landed a leg kick to jumpstart the fight. She kept going for leg kicks while Hill was looking to find her range. Torres ducked under and pressed Hill against the fence. Hill threw a knee from the clinch and was able to get Torres’ back against the fence for a brief period of time. Torres landed a right hand to the jaw on the break. Torres then completed a takedown and wound up in half guard. Torres maintained control, but was unable to do substantial damage on the ground.
The second round began with Torres throwing a front leg side kick. Hill landed a jab, but it was answered with an overhand right from Torres. Like the opening frame, Torres took Hill down and ended up in half guard. Torres moved to side control and eventually achieved full mount momentarily. Hill was able to get her opponent back to half guard. Referee “Big” John McCarthy stood both competitors back up. Torres pushed Hill against the cage as the second round concluded.
Hill landed a leg kick in the opening seconds of the final frame. Torres connected with a knee to the body. A left hook from Torres connected. Hill landed a right hand that forced Torres to go for a takedown. Hill once again found her back against the fence. The crowd became restless with the action on display inside the Octagon. Hill landed a couple of elbows as Torres was attempting a takedown. McCarthy broke the ladies up and the fight resumed on the feet briefly. Heavy boos rained down from the crowd as Torres held Hill against the cage as the final horn sounded.
