Swanson Vs. Stephens Set For San Antonio

A hard-hitting featherweight affair has been penciled in as the headlining fight for the recently announced UFC Fight Night Card in San Antonio, Texas.

According to FOX Sports, UFC officials confirmed today that returning No. 4-ranked featherweight Cub Swanson will take on surging Jeremy “Lil’ Heathen” Stephens in the main event of the June 28 card, which will air on FOX Sports 1 from the AT&T Center.

Swanson hasn’t fought since destroying Dennis Siver with a third round TKO at UFC 162 in July 2013. The WEC vet has since been dealing with a nagging elbow injury that required surgery. He’s won five straight bouts over solid competition, and will make a very strong case for a shot at divisional champion Jose Aldo’s belt with a win.

But that will be no easy task.

Former lightweight Stephens has looked beyond rejuvenated at his new home of featherweight, winning three straight bouts. “Lil’ Heathen” was most recently seen defeating gritty wrestler Darren Elkins with a unanimous decision at UFC on FOX 10. If he can somehow get by Swanson, the No. 11-ranked Stephens could establish himself as an unlikely title contender at 145 pounds.

Given the knockout power of both of these exciting fighters, Swanson vs. Stephens could shape up to be one the best bouts of 2014. Who is your pick to win the firefight?
