No Surprise: Conor McGregor Weighing Several Movie Roles Following UFC Fight Night 59
Experiencing a rapid rise to superstardom like few other ever have in the UFC, it’s no surprise that Irish featherweight Conor McGregor already has some big opportunities outside of the cage.
According to UFC Tonight’s Ariel Helwani, McGregor’s manager Addie Attar told him that “Notorious” has several movie offers on the table. McGregor will reportedly focus on the roles after his upcoming bout with Dennis Siver in the main event of January 18’s UFC Fight Night 59 from Boston.
McGregor may not have any time for movies if he wins because he could be headed for an absolutely massive title fight against Jose Aldo in a soccer stadium somewhere in Brazil or even Ireland.
No. 2-ranked Frankie Edgar recently made a very strong case for a title shot with his five round domination of Cub Swanson at November 22’s UFC Fight Night 57, but he already lost to Aldo at UFC 156, and there’s no denying that McGregor vs. Aldo is potentially one of the biggest earners the UFC could book.
If Edgar does in fact get the shot, McGregor will have time to take on one or more movie roles should he so choose, making him similar to UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, the one fighter who could perhaps rival his own popularity.
Of course, McGregor’s big plans could be temporarily delayed if Siver can upset him, but as a 10-to-1 underdog, it’s clear that almost everyone is picking “Notorious” to score another first round finish over an aggressive striker.
Many fighters and fans have claimed that the UFC has fed McGregor tailor-made opponents, but you can hardly blame them for giving their golden goose favorable matchups.
His meteoric rise has been nothing short of a spectacle, and it arguably saved 2014 for the UFC after nearly every champion was forced out of a high-level title fight. McGregor’s charisma and mic skills could translate into success on the silver screen in the near future, yet Dana White will want to keep him in action as often as possible.
Would a movie career take away from “Notorious’s” skills in the cage, or is he good enough to balance both?
