Strikeforce to hold September 29 card in Sacramento, California

Strikeforce is coming to Sacramento, California. The promotion announced Saturday during the Showtime broadcast of “Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy”, that they will host a fight card on September 29 at the Power Balance Pavillion, formerly the Arco Arena.

Strikeforce’s next show is set for August 18 at Valley View Casino in San Diego, featuring a Bantamweight title fight in the female division between Champion Ronda Rousey and top contender Sarah Kaufman.

The September card will be the second show of the day for Zuffa, which has UFC on FUEL TV 5 taking place the same day in Nottingham, England, which should wrap up before the Strikeforce card begins. Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix winner Daniel Cormier will be on the card, likely in the main event.

Cormier (10-0 MMA, 7-0 Strikeforce) won a unanimous decision over Josh Barnett in May to win Strikeforce’s heavyweight tournament. However, the injuries he suffered in the fight have been keeping him on the sidelines. His opponent has yet to be announced.

This will be the first time that the San Jose based promoter will host an event in the state’s capital.
