Stipe Miocic Survives Knockdown To Starch Alistair Overeem
It’s weird that a man gets booed as he’s walking out to Pride FC music, but that’s exactly what happened to Alistair Overeem (41-15, 1 NC) at UFC 203. That’s because he was competing against hometown hero Stipe Miocic (16-2) at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland for the heavyweight title.
The fight didn’t make the five minute mark, but it was exciting and ended with Miocic retaining his championship.
The two bulls touched gloves and met at the center of the Octagon. Miocic moved him and looked to be the aggressor. A hard body kick landed for Overeem. “”The Reem” dropped the champiion and went for a guillotine, but couldn’t get it. Overeem ran around to avoid a situation where he could get caught. Miocic landed a left hand. The champion went over Overeem and landed a right hand.
The challenger couldn’t find his way away from the cage. An uppercut stunned Miocic momentarily. A side kick attempt from Overeem was his doom as it allowed Miocic to get in top control. There, the champion knocked Overeem out cold with ground and pound.
Post-fight Overeem claimed he felt a tap when he had a guillotine choke locked in. The replays showed the champion did not tap and it drew a chorus of boos.
Final Result: Stipe Miocic def. Alistair Overeem via KO (punches) – R1, 4:27
