Stephan Bonnar retires from MMA
The man who helped turn the fortunes of the UFC and the entire sport of MMA with one magical fight has decided to call it quits. Stephan Bonnar, who will forever be remembered for his epic clash with Forrest Griffin at the finale of the first season of The Ultimate Fighter, has confirmed that he has shed enough blood for the sport he loves.
The American Psycho is coming off of a loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 153 in Brazil and had been pondering retirement before the loss. But Dana White confirmed that the 11-year veteran is done with MMA. “Yes, Bonnar will be retiring now,” White said during the online MetroPCS chat. MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani later confirmed the news with Bonnar.
Bonnar had considered himself retired before stepping in to face Anderson Silva at UFC 153 once word got out that both the main and co-main had been scratched due to injuries. As always, Bonnar was a company man who would fight anyone at anytime and will forever be remembered for what he brought to the sport.
He ends his career with a 15-8 record and fought the likes of Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, Jon Jones and Mark Coleman during his career.
