Earlier today, legendary former UFC champion Georges St-Pierre officially announced his retirement from MMA competition.
GSP confirmed the many reports circling yesterday that he would do just that. St-Pierre stepped down from the sport during a press conference in Montreal. The all-time great leaves MMA with nine straight welterweight title defenses and a middleweight title win in tow.
Many believe he’s the greatest to ever compete in the sport of mixed martial arts. You can certainly make a strong case for that. That debate will rage on perhaps forever. Yet at the current time, St-Pierre is certainly in the top three. His impact on MMA cannot be denied, and that was apparent in the social media reactions to his retirement.
