POLL: Should Renan Barao Move Up To 145 Pounds After Weight Cutting Fiasco?

Renan Barao’s fall from grace in 2014 has been sudden and rather surprising. Against TJ Dillashaw at UFC 173, Barao lost his title in the biggest upset of 2014 so far. He was dominated throughout the fight, and finally finished in round five. This was just the start of the now former bantamweight champion woes.

After such an impressive streak, having been unbeaten in 33 fights, the Brazilian Nova Uniao fighter was offered an instant rematch. UFC 177 was the date, and “Baron” would get his chance at acting out some revenge on “The Viper”, and stealing back his coveted belt. Then came Friday August 30.

The news broke that Renan Barao was unable to compete at UFC 177, after having issues whilst making weight. The former champion had gone from losing the first match, to getting a rematch, and now not even getting a title shot. UFC president Dana White suggested that Barao move to the featherweight division, but does that make sense?

Right now Barao’s team mate Jose Aldo is the champion at 145 pounds, and the two have vowed never to fight. If Barao can’t win a title at featherweight, then why even move there? What do you think, should Renan Barao move to 145 pounds to eliminate these weight cutting issues, or should he stay put where has been his entire career?
