On Thursday, open workouts took place for the quickly approaching UFC on FX fight card. The event will take place this Friday from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN and it will be headlined by a lightweight battle between Melvin Guillard and Jim Miller. The UFC’s struggles to get MMA sanctioned in the State of New York are well documented. The promotion has tried and failed to get the sport legalized through legislative means in the past. Near the end of 2011, the UFC took things one step further and filed a lawsuit against the State, claiming that denying MMA fighters the right to compete was a violation of their First Amendment right.

UFC 142 is set to go down on January 14 from the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. The main event on the card will feature a Featherweight title bout between Champion Jose Aldo and challenger, the undefeated Chad Mendes.
The co-main event will feature a middleweight bout between Vitor Belfort and Anthony Johnson.  Johnson, will be making his middleweight debut in Brazil, moving up from Welterweight.
