ZUFFA set to eliminate Strikeforce Heavyweight Division in 2012

The announcement that Showtime and Strikeforce had inked a new deal to present six to eight fight cards on the cable network was not a real surprise as UFC President Dana White had all but officially announced the deal was done earlier in the week. What did come as a surprise was the announcement that the Strikeforce Heavyweight division would cease to exist at some point in 2012.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker had this to say about the division, which currently sits without a champion and awaits the

Remembering Cro Cop: A look back at the career of Mirko Filipovic

When I was ten years old my uncle bought me a brand new Playstation game that has helped blossom my love and interest in combat sports.  K-1 Revenge came out in 1999 and it introduced me to many kickboxing legends that I admire and still enjoy watching today. Names like Ernesto Hoost, Peter Aerts, the late Andy Hug, Mike Bernardo, and many more. One name in the game that really stood out to me at the time was Mirko Tiger. Not because of his style or the way he played, but it was his name itself that I

Compustrike: Strikeforce Overeem vs. Werdum by the numbers

Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum was one of the most anticipated bouts of 2011 and unfortunately the event did not live up to the hype. We’ve all heard the saying “styles make fights” and last Saturday was a perfect display of that. It was clear, Fabricio Werdum wanted to keep the fight on the ground, and Alistair Overeem wanted to keep the fight on the feet. Similar to Anderson Silva’s fights with Demian Maia and Thales Leites (minus the dancing) a big chunk of the fight was spent with Werdum doing the

LowKick.com Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum Community Predictions

This weekend we get the second straight week of two top ten killers going at it in a heavyweight, main event fight. Only this time it’s guys who are the best grappler, and striker, currently competing in the hw division of mixed martial arts. Overeem is currently riding a tidal wave of momentum. He holds belts in three promotions, and two different sports. While not always going up against the best competition “the reem” has been nothing short of destructive against the fighters unfortunate enough to share

Mirko Cro Cop: A Retrospective on Career of MMA Legend

I assume fellow Cro Cop fans like me are in their basement drying tears with their Croatian flags with Wild Boys playing in the background. While yes mourning is expected in a time like this, we need to keep our heads high because this is a time to have a look back at the legend that is Mirko Cro Cop.

UFC 128: Mirko Cro Cop’s Last Chance

There is no doubt among hardcore fans and experts that Mirko Filipovic aka “Cro Cop” is a legend in the game and has left a huge imprint in the world of Mixed Martial Arts. He made his name as a fairly successful K-1 Kickboxer, but it wasn’t until he stepped into the PRIDE arena in MMA where he truly made his name.  “Right leg hospital; left leg cemetery” was Cro Cop’s motto, with many men becoming victims of his vicious strikes.
Names like Kazushi Sakuraba, Heath

Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva: I’d love to send Brock Lesnar back to Pro Wrestling

Just a month after securing the biggest victory of his professional career, defeating “The Last Emperor” Fedor Emelianenko via TKO in February, it appears Strikeforce Heavyweight contender Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva already has his sites set on another big name opponent. Though its not the first time the Brazilian has expressed a distaste for the former WWE superstar, the potential for a future UFC/Strikeforce merger makes the idea of crossing promotional boundaries seem far less unrealistic to fans and…
