Medically cleared to fight yesterday, GSP has come in as a quite sizable favorite over the interim champ Condit. Perhaps this has something to do with the huge amount of controversy stemming from Condit’s acquiring of the interim belt over Nick Diaz. Rising UFC Welterweight contender Rory MacDonald recently destroyed a very game opponent in Che Mills at UFC 145, and now it appears that the sky is the limit for the 22-year-old prospect. Training out of the TriStar Gym in Montreal under the tutelage of Georges St. Pierre, MacDonald has quickly shunned all talk of fighting GSP. However, it may be soon that MacDonald will find himself in the contradictory position of fighting for the Welterweight title, albeit against his mentor should the situation arise.
Renowned boxing trainer Freddie Roach, who has worked with both UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre and UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, compares the punching power of each fighter and discusses the oft-debated “Superfight” between the two. Roach explains that it’s a match-up that he has discussed with St. Pierre in the past and admits that, due to the size difference, it is unlikely to ever materialize.
The one thing that UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre seemed to want more than anything else on Saturday night was to see Nick Diaz stand in the center of the Octagon with his hand raised in victory. In the days leading up to the event, St. Pierre made it clear that he wanted to face Diaz in his next bout, however that opportunity was denied him by a Carlos Condit victory.
There were many fans that also wanted to see St. Pierre meet Diaz and while that fight may not happen as soon as St. Pierre
