Books in Review: Kettlebell RX, Marcelo Garcia’s Advanced BJJ, Grappler’s Manifesto

Victory Belt Publishing recently released three instructional sports books; Marcelo Garcia’s Advanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Grapplers Manifesto, and Kettlebell RX. I had an opportunity to review the mentioned above trio. The first that comes to mind when holding a Victory Belt book is the print quality. It feels like a book and looks like a book. The covers are very creative, and will add some color to every bookshelf. Things get serious when you open the book and proceed to its content. The first book

Looking back at TUF 14, could Brandao and Dodson become champions in the UFC?

Nearly seven years ago, a tv show brought the sport of Mixed Martial Arts to the mainstream public. When The Ultimate Fighter season one debuted January 17 2005 it was a big gamble for ZUFFA at the time to venture into the unknown waters of reality television. That crapshoot paid off, gave birth to a legion of loyal fans, and created superstars and champions out of many who appeared on the show. After fourteen seasons, the show that saved the Ultimate Fighting Championship will now start a new chapter in

Kajan Johnson: I’m the kind of guy that likes to push the pace and bring it every second (Exclusive Interview)

The fight scene in my hometown of Vancouver is a very small world. Everyone seems to know everybody and we always seem to bump into someone we know all the time. I first met “Ragin” Kajan (pronounced Kay-Jaan) Johnson on my birthday at a popular night club last year. He was talking to my muay thai coach and they were discussing Kajan’s last fight from MFC 27 last November. I became a fan boy when I saw him at the club because he put on a hell of a performance against Ryan Healy and

Spike TV announces the departure of The Ultimate Fighter

“The Ultimate Fighter” season 14 in September will be our last. We are increasing our commitment to distinctive, original series that we own such as “Auction Hunters” and “Bar Rescue” which are delivering on our goal to reach a broader audience. In response to the landmark deal between the FOX network and The Ultimate Fighting Championship, Spike TV has released a

Which Rampage Jackson will show up at UFC 130?

When I was first exposed to Quinton Jackson it was through an old PRIDE DVD that my Martial Arts teacher owned. It was PRIDE’s the Best of Rampage Jackson. This was of course before he became the MMA superstar that we know now in the UFC. His battles with Kevin Randleman, his upset in the first fight with Chuck Liddell, his rivalry with Wanderlei Silva, but what really stood out to me was “the slam”. Ricardo Arona is arguably one of the greatest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners to ever make the jump to

TUF 13 Diary: Episode 8 Recap and Analysis

Sometimes I feel like a broken record when watching TUF. To be honest and I think I could speak for a big chunk of you Lowkickers out there, but the 13th season of The Ultimate Fighter reality TV show hasn’t wowed me. The only guy that really stood out for me was Team dos Santos member Ryan McGillivray. But other than him there hasn’t been a moment of brilliance on the show yet that has led me to believe that we have a bona fide Mixed Martial Arts superstar coming out of this show. TUF in the past

TUF 13 Diary: Episode 4 Recap and Analysis

The last episode of The Ultimate Fighter had Brock Lesnar explain to his team what a chicken s*** salad is, we saw a possible “trader” from Team Lesnar hang out with Team dos Santos, and a pretty exciting bout between Ryan McGillivray and Len Bentley. It ended with McGillivray getting the majority decision over Bentley. Team dos Santos is now 2-1 in the show and once again they earned the right to pick their next fight.
-JDS seemed to be in very good spirits after Ryan McGillivray’s victory
