Nick Diaz lost a hotly contested decision Saturday night to Carlos Condit. This no doubt has thrown the dynamo for a loop considering he would have had a date with GSP lined up had he taken the win (and the interim title). In fact, he seemed so disgusted with fighting after the way he lost the match that he subsequently retired from MMA. Knowing his history of brash decisions we are only left to hope that he goes back on that plan, and keeps scrapping.

UFC on FOX 2 pulls in an average of 4.661 million viewers

The ratings are in for UFC on FOX 2, and while the UFC’s second fight card on the network did not top the November 12, 2011 one hour special that the promotion used as an introduction, the numbers were still strong.
The ratings for the three fight card peaked during the main event between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis, when an average of 6.08 million viewers were tuned into the event.

Anderson Silva reveals he is suffering from a back injury

The last time MMA fans saw Anderson Silva inside the Octagon he defeated Yushin Okami by TKO in the second round of UFC 134’s main event. Following that event Silva admitted that he had suffered a shoulder injury while training for that fight.  That injury had kept Silva from training since the conclusion of that fight on August 27, 2011.

Yesterday, news broke that Cris “Cyborg” Santos, the Strikeforce Women’s 145 lb. Champion, had failed a drug test for the performance enhancer stanozolol.  Following her impressive sixteen-second victory over Hiroko Yamanaka on December 17, 2011, the failed test has resulted in a suspension, a $2500 fine, and most importantly, the stripping of her Women’s Championship belt by UFC President Dana White.  This event has powerful ramifications for the entire landscape
