Sean Sherk wants to cement his place in the UFC Hall of Fame
It’s been well over a year since Sean Sherk last stepped into the Octagon. Sherk’s last fight was a split decision victory over Evan Dunham at UFC 119, which took place on September 25, 2010. His previous fight had been a unanimous decision loss to Frankie Edgar in May 2009. The reason behind the gap between those two fights was injuries that forced Sherk from three separate fight cards.
Sherk told MMAJunkie.com that he wanted to fight in 2011, but again his 38 year old body had other things in mind, “It’s just injuries. It’s injuries piling up.” Yet, Sherk is not retiring, he is still training and still hoping to add more fights to the 41 professional fights that he has on his record (36-4-1.)
Unlike some veteran fighters, Sherk, a former UFC Lightweight champion, is not looking for another shot at UFC gold before he hangs up his gloves. Instead Sherk is thinking of his legacy and making a place for himself in the UFC’s Hall of Fame, “I‘m a fighter. At this point in time, do I plan on fighting five or six more times? Probably not, to be honest with you. That’s why I want big fights. I want co-main-event or main-event type fights that are going to cement my place in the UFC Hall of Fame. Absolutely, I think at this point in time, I’ve done enough to be a hall of famer, but I’d like a few more fights to make my mark.” – for more see MMAJunkie.com
