Rousimar Palhares May Be Stripped Of WSOF Title, Didn’t Receive Win Bonus
It looks as though Rousimar Palhares’ dirty tactics may have caught up to him yet again, in the aftermath of a brutal title defense at WSOF 22 (World Series OF Fighting). ‘Paul Harris’ once again held the submission too long as he cranked on Jake Shields’ shoulder, but perhaps equally as alarming was the accusation by Shields’ camp of eye gouging throughout the fight. With TJ Grant calling for the Brazilian welterweight champion to be banned for life, someone down the line has obviously picked up on the outrage surrounding the bout.
‘Toquinho’ has gone too far this time, and thankfully WSOF president Ali Abdelaziz says that investigations are being made, as per MMAJunkie.com:
“We’re going to go back, and we’re going to see what happened in the fight on video – take my time, and take my emotion out (of it), If Palhares really held the submission long and (there were) eye-gouges for sure, there’s going to be some consequences for sure.”
“We have a lot of options (such as) suspensions, (stripping him) of his belt. I can’t judge right now. I can’t judge right now because I’ve been one of his biggest supporters. Everybody told me not to support him, but I supported him. But I guarantee you we’ll look at this video.”
“The submission was legit. He swept him from the bottom. I don’t know if he held it (too long). Maybe he did. Maybe he didn’t.”
Palhares’ filthy tactics recently earned him a three-place promotion on the most unsavoury list in MMA, and he may well lose his title should the commission take in to account the compilation of accusations and infractions in ‘Paul Harris” past.
His checkered history in the sport might come back to bite him in the ass, just as it had frequently during his UFC stint, is there really any reason to give the grappling ace another chance?
