Rousey Interview: new nickname for Cyborg and future in Hollywood

After winning a 54 second victory by way of arm bar over Sarah Kaufman, Ronda Rousey took some time to speak with our good friends at MMA H.E.A.T. Karyn Bryant interviewed “Rowdy” Ronda  for a few minutes in the attached video.

When asked why she looked so stoic and serious after what was probably the biggest female MMA fight of the year the former Olympian said: “I’m very happy and after I win I’m Zen happy, just relaxed and relieved. I’m not bouncing off the walls or anything, I’ll be like that tomorrow.”

As for her quick less-than-one-minute victory over Kaufman, many in the press (self-included) thought this might have been a longer bout, Rousey says she was prepared either way: “I was expecting it to go as quickly as possible, but I was just as prepared to go all five rounds if I needed to.”

From the cage, she called out Christine “Cyborg” Santos, by using a different apellation: Cy-roid. Referring to the fighter;s suspension for using steroids. She called her out again at the press conference following the event. Rousey told Karen Bryant that her new nickname is suitable: “I could call her Guy-borg, but Cy-roid has some basis in truth I don’t know that she’s actually a dude. As soon as she gets off her suspension I’m ready yo go. I don’t want her to fight anyone else. (Now that I’m the champ) the situation has changed.”

Many popular fighters have gone on to successful film careers: Gina Carano, Randy Couture, Bas Ruetten, etc. When asked if Hollywood came calling yet, Rowdy stated that she has no immediate prospects, but left the idea open after a future fight with Cyborg : “My manager Darren and Gene and all them have been good about keeping these things from me, but I’m pretty convinced that doing movies is a death sentence for fighters. You do 6 months of filming and 6 months of promoting and that cuts down on your time to train. I want this fight in January and after that I might consider devoting time to other things.”
