Rose Namajunas: VanZant Makes A Lot Of Mistakes
UFC Fight Night 80 is set to go down live on UFC Fight Pass tomorrow night (December 10, 2015) with women’s strawweight contenders Paige “12 Guage” VanZant and Rose Namajunas doing battle in the main event.
Namajunas, a former title challenger, currently sits at No. 3 in the divisional rankings, but VanZant is undoubtedly receiving the majority of the attention.
The rising prospect in “12 Guage” is undefeated in the UFC and seems to be being heavily promoted by the promotion. Namajunas doesn’t take offense to this, however, noting that VanZant deserves the hype:
“She has a reason for people to talk about her,” Rose said of Paige at this week’s UFC Fight Night 80 open workouts. “She’s definitely on a roll. She’s the whole package and she’s very exciting. I think she has all the hype she deserves. She’s a formidable opponent and I’m not talking her lightly.”
While VanZant may being billed as the next big thing, Namajunas feels as if she matches up well with the Team Alpha Male product:
“I match-up really great against her. My striking and my jiu-jitsu is definitely gonna pose a lot of problems for her, and my wrestling and my clinch work is getting better every day. I’m just really comfortable in there.”
In closing, Namajunas said that VanZant simply makes a lot of mistakes in her fights, something that the former title challenger will be looking to jump on:
“She makes a lot of mistakes in her fights, girls just haven’t been able to capitalize on it yet,” Rose said. “She’s got such heart and tenacity that she’s able to kind of make up for it. She also uses her mistakes to her advantage because some people overly jump on things, or try and jump on her back and choke her out too fast, and she gets right back on top. She likes those scrambles but I’m really good in the scrambles. It takes me less than a second to see something and grab onto it, so she’s got to be very careful.”
Which combatant will continue her rise up the ranks tomorrow night?
