Rory MacDonald Opens As Betting Favorite Against Robbie Lawler
In late 2013, Robbie Lawler defeated Rory MacDonald at UFC 167. Lawler went on to win the UFC Welterweight Championship when he beat Johnny Hendricks at UFC 181 back in December 2014.
Lawler (25-10 MMA, 10-4 UFC) is now scheduled to attempt his first title defence when he meets MacDonald (18-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) for the second time this summer at UFC 189 but, according to the bookmakers, the champion is not the favourite.
Early betting lines suggest that the challenger is the fighter most likely to walk away with the gold, listing him as a slight favourite over underdog, UFC welterweight champion, Lawler. At the moment, a bet of $100 on Lawler will net you roughly $100 profit, while the same bet on Macdonald will yield just $75.
The main event at UFC 189 features Jose Aldo defending his featherweight belt against Conor McGregor and is also open to betting. Aldo is the favourite in that bout with $100 paying just $70 versus $110 for McGregor.
The show is set to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and air on pay-per-view on July 11. Betting lines will rise and fall based on how much money is waged on the respective fighters in the build up to the event.
