Report: Conor McGregor vs. Jorge Masvidal Rumors Untrue

Conor McGregor

A high-profile match that’s getting some heat online apparently isn’t true. That fight is Conor McGregor vs. Jorge Masvidal, but it’s just not realistic.

That’s according to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, who just tweeted this afternoon that he was seeing reports of the fight. If you’ve seen one of those reports, they are completely untrue, he said:

There could be worse fights for McGregor’s return. He’s had trouble with high-level wrestlers, namely the best in champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Yet a return bout with Masvidal, who usually does anything but look for repeated takedowns, could be just what the doctor ordered for McGregor.

McGregor has made more headlines for getting slapped in handcuffs than actually winning fights recently. Masvidal, on the other hand, has set the MMA world ablaze recently. “”Gamebred” knocked out Darren Till in the UFC London main event. It was what he did after that’s gaining him fame. He coined one of the sport’s most beloved catchphrases with his “three-piece and a soda” on Leon Edwards backstage.

He wouldn’t be a bad return match-up for McGregor as a result. But it’s not happening. What fight could be, however, is McGregor’s oft-rumored trilogy with Nate Diaz. Helwani suggested it was still on the table and the path was clear. A deal just needed to be reached, and there was not one in place right now:
