Rematch! Charles Oliveira vs. Nik Lentz Slated For UFC Fight Night 50
Continuing the whirlwind trend of UFC fight announcements the past few days, a featherweight rematch between surging submission artist Charles Oliveira and grinder Nik Lentz has been added to the growing UFC Fight Night 50 card on September 5, 2014, from Foxwoods Resort & Casino in Ledyard, Connecticut.
Oliveira has already locked up two “Performance of the Night” bonuses this year, recently submitting Hatsu Hioki at UFC Fight Night 43 after choking out Andy Ogle at UFC Fight Night 36 in February.
The bulldozing “Do Bronx” also beat Lentz with by submission back at UFC on Versus 4 in 2011, but the result was changed to a No Contest after Oliveira rocked “Carny” with an illegal knee.
It’s a fight that he’s wanted to get back for some time. He touched on his revenge against Lentz after his win over Hioki:
“I’m ready to fight anyone UFC says, but I can’t hide I have some unfinished business with Nik Lentz. If I could choose, he’s the one I would like to fight next. He doesn’t have a fight scheduled and I’m coming off a win, so it makes sense that we fight again so I can beat him up one more time.”
The No. 9-ranked Lentz comes in off of a decision win over Manny Gamburyan at UFC Fight Night 40 in May. “The Carny” is always a tough out for most featherweights with his wrestling, but he’s only finished one fight since making his way down to featherweight, a UFC 150 TKO stoppage of Eiji Mitsuoka.
If Lentz wants to fight his way up the ladder in a division full of talented killers, he’s going to have to start standing out from the pack. He can do just that by defeating the exciting 26-year-old Oliveira, but that will be easier sad than done.
After fighting some of the best featherweights in the world at a ripe young age, Oliveira is poised to make a run towards the top in the latter half of 2014. Will Lentz stand in his way?
