Rashad Evans Seeking Rematch With Jon Jones
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans has had a friendship with former UFC champion Jon Jones and he has had a rivalry with him as well. The two fighters were training partners for years at Jackson’s Martial Arts but that all changed when Jones beat Mauricio Rua for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship at UFC 128.
Following that fight, Evans was supposed to fight Jones, and then things turned south. Evans left the gym, and their rivalry got heated.
Evans lost to Jones at UFC 145 by unanimous decision.
Evans is set to fight Glover Teixeira at UFC on FOX 19 in a light heavyweight bout and recently spoke with MMAjunkie to promote the fight. During the interview, Evans commented on a potential rematch with Jones.
“I would love to fight Jon again. In my opinion, Jon is arguably the best fighter to ever set foot in the octagon. His personal issues aside and the things he’s most unfortunately known for in his personal life, just looking at what he’s able to accomplish in the cage and the way and time he’s been able to do it, he’s one of the greatest competitors to ever step into the octagon. So, to be able to go against someone like that and be able to have that test is what it’s all about. When I’m an old man, and I’m telling these MMA stories, I would like to say I went in there, and I fought the best of the best. I went against the best of my time, and he’s one of those guys. So, for me to fight him again would be an amazing opportunity.”
UFC on FOX 19 takes place on April 16th from the Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL.
