Quote: Anderson Silva’s Legacy Is Ruined
There’s not much that hasn’t been said about former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva this week, from his failed drug test for steroids, to his not-so Anderson Silva like performance at UFC 183. It certainly has been an odd year so far for “The Spider”, and the UFC have also had their fair share of dramas already.
Silva has since denied using any steroids in the lead up to UFC 183, but the damage is likely already done unless it turns out to be a mishandled test. Fellow UFC middleweight Michael Bisping spoke out about the fallen champ’s failed drug test, to Rick J Lee:
“The more I thought about it, I thought, ‘Hold on a minute. This doesn’t surprise me at all,’” he said. “I’m just so bloody naive. I really am. I really just assume everybody’s out there doing it the old-fashioned way, doing it the way I do it. And the more and more that comes out, I realize that people don’t. People are looking for shortcuts. People are looking to cheat.”
“Who’s to say his hasn’t been doing this his entire career? His legacy is ruined. Chris Weidman really did a number on that kid. My word. Shame on you, Chris Weidman.”
“It leaves a black mark on the sport. You can only imagine how pissed off (UFC executives) Dana (White) and Lorenzo (Fertitta) must be. They’ve worked so hard to promote a fantastic sport, but the individuals involved in it, unfortunately, are looking for an easy way out.”
It’s a tough pill to swallow for any fan of “The Spider”, that he really could have cheated his way through an entire career. Surely there is the possibility of a mistake in testing, or is this really the bottom line?
Has Anderson Silva’s legacy been ruined by this recent drug test scandal?
