Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson Says It’s Time To Think About Retirement
As if things hadn’t already taken a turn for the worse (or better?) for Bellator, it seems one of their (only?) biggest stars may be considering calling it quits. News only broke hours ago that BMMA CEO and founder Bjorn Rebney had been axed by the promotion, and now it seems like recent UFC crossover Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson is thinking about retiring.
The Pride FC fan favorite and Bellator light-heavyweight had a rocky road to walk when he joined the UFC back in 2007; after winning the promotion’s 205-pound title in only his second UFC fight, TKOing Chuck Liddell for the second time, Jackson started to fade. Injuries, and losses to Forrest Griffin in only his second title defense, Rashad Evans, Jon Jones and Ryan Bader saw ‘Page get his marching papers in early 2013.
Things started to look up when Jackson signed for Bellator and scored three straight wins against Joey Beltran, Christian M’Pumbu and King Mo, but check out what Jackson posted to his Instagram account today:
“The1st time Chuck and I fought was in Japan. Pride reps asked me 2 give him a good beating even tho I had 2 fights that night. I lost my 2nd fight that night cause I did what they asked,and they stood up the fight with Wand to soon,in my opinion.. MMA hasn’t had my back they way I had it’s back. Time for me to think about retirement. Or fighting 4 myself..”
Now age 35, and holding a record of 35-11, where is left for the heavy-handed veteran to fight? Perhaps, as he said, the world of JMMA, UFC and Bellator is just a thing of the past for him now.
