Previewing Glover Teixeira vs. James Te Huna At UFC 160

Glover Teixeira is coming in to UFC 160 on board a big hype train. We last saw Teixeira in action when he beat Quinton Jackson at UFC on Fox Johnson vs. Dodson, in arguably the biggest test of his career to date. His next fight comes in the form of a Light Heavyweight clash against New Zealand born slugger James Te Huna.

Teixeira is unbeaten in 18 fights with wins over Sokodju, Fabio Maldonado, ‘Rampage’, Kyle Kingsbury and Ricco Rodriguez to name a few.. His opponent Te Huna is also on win streak, most recently beating Ryan Jimmo to extend his run to four (all in the UFC).

This fight is very interesting to me for one main reason-these guys like to stand and trade. The other reason is that neither of these guys have nicknames, so I’m going to try and think of some before the end of the post. Teixeira has 12 KO’s from 20 wins, and Te Huna owns 10 from 16. There is no doubt in my mind that this is going to be a crazy war.

Te Huna has never been knocked out, but has been submitted four times, while Teixeira has not bee subbed and has been finished once by strikes. So we’ve got two brawlers with great chins and Teixeira with the advantage in grappling. Teixeira’s black belt in BJJ will certainly give him confidence on the mat, but might also push him to throw wilder kicks and punches, as getting taken down isn’t a bad thing when you kick ass from your back. Although he may want to be careful of Te Huna’s slams.

I don’t want to overlook Te Huna at all, and nor should Teixeira. He is a dangerous fighter, his 47 second knockout of Ricardo Romero at UFC 135 is a perfect example of that. Te Huna will probably want to keep it on the feet, although his vicious slams could land Teixeira in trouble.I wouldn’t expect Teixeira to try and ground the fight from the first bell unless he is rocked badly.

I think the winner of this fight should face the winner of Nog vs. Rua at UFC 161. And now for the nicknames-how about Glover ‘The Terror’ Teixeira and James ‘The Big’ Te Huna? Can anyone come up with better nicknames? Stay tuned to Lowkick!
