The UFC 183 main event features two of the biggest names in mixed martial arts history, as former middleweight champion Anderson Silva returns to face ex-Strikeforce welterweight boss Nick Diaz. The two have sat dormant in recent times, “The Spider” hasn’t fought since a crushing duo of losses to Chris Weidman in 2013, and the Stockton CA native also hasn’t been seen in action since his loss to GSP in the same year.
With such a mouth-watering bout between two of the most popular fighters only 24 hours away, who do you think will win the UFC 183 main event? We’ve spoke at length about how their styles match, and you know my take on it, but is it accurate? We know that “The Spider” can bang, just look at his extensive record, but is Diaz being sold short here?
The former Strikeforce champ has proved he can box better than pretty much anyone in MMA, outclassing pure strikers such as Paul Daley, KJ Noons and Robbie Lawler during his illustrious career. But what he faces in Silva is a real counter-striking genius, although he does have a weakness for acting like a clown sometimes.
Bear in mind that Diaz is also rather notorious for taunting his opponents during fights, so maybe there’ll be a fair share of clowning from both sides.
