Poll: Should Vitor Belfort Fight For UFC Interim Title?

ufc interim title vitor belfort

UFC middleweight and old school MMA legend Vitor Belfort finds himself in the rather unenviable position of sitting and waiting for a UFC title shot. His much-anticipated shot at the champion Chris Weidman was once again postponed due to injury, and we’re left thinking that Weidman vs Belfort has really lost a lot of steam.

Before we can consider how the UFC will promote Belfort’s shot at “The All-American”, you have to look at what other options have been made available, and more specifically the interim title talk. Not only did “The Phenom” dismiss a fight with Lyoto Machida for the interim belt, but also with Gegard Mousasi.

Should the former two-weight champ consider fighting again? Some might think so, especially when you consider that Belfort’s win streak was compiled in 2013. How many other top ranked fighters at middleweight are on streaks right now? Jacare Souza, Yoel Romero, Luke Rockhold, these guys are being made to wait as a result of the queue at the top end of the division.

From a fans perspective, I’d like to see these guys fight three times a year, regularly, but is that even possible any more? Injuries seem to be clogging up divisions on a constant basis, and fighters choosing to wait 18 months to fight really doesn’t help that.

So what is your opinion, should Belfort prove himself once again or is he right to refuse interim title fights?
