Piotr Hallmann Tests Positive For Drostanolone
UFC lightweight Piotr Hallmann took on veteran Gleison Tibau at UFC Fight Night 51 in Brasilia, Brazil on September 5, 2014, losing the three-round scrap but earning a “Fight of the Night” bonus for his efforts.
Unfortunately for Hallmann and the UFC, we won’t see him back in the cage for quite some time. The Brazilian Athletic Commission announced today (Mon., October 6, 2014) that the Polish lightweight tested positive for the anabolic steroid drostanolone following the bout.
Hallmann has been suspended for nine months and must pass a drug test before being cleared to return. The UFC will revoke his $50,000 “Fight of the Night” bonus.
Despite Hallmann failing his test, according to the commission, all of the other fighters tested negative including several fighters who were randomly tested with both blood and urine exams.
The drug test problem has once again hit the UFC. However, it seems like the company may be cracking down on it with new and stricter testing methods that were recently clarified by UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta. Fans and fighters alike can only hope that 2015 will be a cleaner year regarding drug testing in mixed martial arts.
