Phil Davis Returns At Bellator 231 Co-Headliner
Former Bellator light heavyweight champion Phil Davis is set to return to the cage.
“Mr. Wonderful” meets Karl Albrektsson in the co-main event of Bellator 231 which takes place October 25 in the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The fight was confirmed by a Bellator official.
It will be his first outing since a second win over Liam McGeary at Bellator 220 in April. In that fight, he notably broke the former champion’s jaw which resulted in the TKO win.
He will now look to make it two wins in a row in his attempts to regain the light heavyweight title back. The former UFC star won the belt in 2016 but would lose it in a split decision to current champion Ryan Bader in 2017. Since then, he has gone 3-1 in Bellator competition. A win against Albrektsson could assure him of the next shot at Bader’s 205-pound belt.
As for Albrektsson, it will be his Bellator debut. He was signed by the promotion in June with his last outing being a unanimous decision win against Christiano Frohlich at Rizin 15.
Bellator 231 will be headlined by a heavyweight bout between Frank Mir and Roy Nelson. The contest will notably be a rematch of their UFC 130 fight back in May 2011. Nelson won that via unananimous decision.
