Paige VanZant Receives New Opponent At UFC Fight Night 80

Plans change in life and the UFC.

Rising star Paige VanZant was supposed to fight Joanne Calderwood in a women’s strawweight bout at the December 10th UFC Fight Night event (UFC Fight Night 80), which will be shown on UFC Fight Pass. However, those plans have been scrapped after Calderwood pulled out of the bout due to injury.

Justin Buchholz, who is the host for Team Alpha Male Radio, claimed that Calderwood pulled out of the fight, and now Van Zant will be getting a new opponent in Rose Namajunas.

“I’ve got a huge announcement. So I found out that Paige VanZant’s opponent… Calderwood’s out. She’s out. Paige, she’s fighting Rose Namajunas,” Buchholz said on Stud Show Radio. “That’s a main event slot, so it’s going to be an awesome fight.”

Paige VanZant (6-1) is currently on a four-fight winning streak and is coming off a third-round-armbar victory over Alex Chambers at UFC 191.

Namajunas (3-2) is coming off a win over Angela Hill at UFC 192 by submission, which marked her first win in the UFC.

It should be noted that the UFC has yet to confirm this bout change, and we are currently awaiting word from the promotion about the change.

UFC Fight Night 80 takes place at the inside The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino. This event will kick off a three-day stretch of events that will end at UFC 194.
