Paige VanZant Eyes UFC 191 Return To Action
In the fairly new UFC women’s strawweight division, there seems to be a lack of established stars and a lack of true title contenders as of now. However, No. 7-ranked Paige “12 Guage” VanZant seems to have all the makings of a potential star, and could be a dark horse in the division to challenge for the belt.
“12 Guage”, a Reebok athlete, clearly has the looks, the charisma, and the fighting style to be a star, and she has looked well inside of the Octagon thus far as well. In her UFC debut last November, VanZant scored an impressive third-round knockout victory over Kailin Curran. She most recently faced a tough test in veteran Felice Herrig, but passed with flying colors as she scored a dominant unanimous decision win.
So what’s next for the rising prospect?
Ariel Helwani appeared on tonight’s edition (June 10, 2015) of UFC Tonight to announce that “12 Guage” is looking to return to action next September, and has requested a fight at UFC 191, which is set to go down from Las Vegas, Nevada on September 5, 2015.
As far as an opponent, VanZant’s camp is currently unsure of who she’ll square off with next. However, Helwani reported a few weeks back that her camp was interested in taking things slow, and letting her grow, rather than rushing into or fast tracking her into a title shot. With “12 Guage” being just 21-years-old, this may be a smart decision.
Who do you think VanZant should face next? Is she ready for a top-5 caliber opponent, or should she test herself against another foe in the lower half of the top-10?
