Paige VanZant Blames Loss To Rose Namajunas On Not Being Prepared

The UFC hyped Paige VanZant to be the next big star, but she fell out of the sky at Thursday’s UFC Fight Night 80 event. She met Rose Namajunas in a women’s strawweight bout as the main event of the event. Namajunas, who was in the underdog in this fight, got the upset win with a fifth round rear-naked choke.

VanZant was asked about the fight at the post-fight presser and she said the obvious. She was outclassed in this fight.

“I got outclassed in every way,” VanZant said. “I guess when I got hit I got rocked pretty bad. I’m new; I got to get my technique better.”

VanZant, who was very emotional, said that she is new and has a lot to learn. She feels that she was too aggressive and was not prepared for the fight.

“I’m just new; I got a lot to learn,” VanZant said. “Just working with my team – I’m trying not to cry, guys – just working with my team, trying to get my technique better. You can’t just be aggressive to win fights. I just wasn’t prepared for that fight.”

VanZant (6-2) is currently on a one-fight losing streak.

When asked when she wants to fight again, VanZant said that she feels good and is willing to fight as soon as possible.

“I’m ready to get back in the gym as soon as possible,” VanZant said. “I feel great still; obviously, I took a little damage to my face. But I want to get back in there as soon as possible. I have the heart, I have the aggression, I don’t have the technique yet, and I think everyone’s known that.”
