A War of Words: Sonnen vs. Bisping Preview

This weekend’s UFC on FOX 2 card in Chicago, IL will showcase a high-profile bout between Chael Sonnen and Michael “The Count” Bisping as the co-main event.  After Mark Munoz was injured his elbow in training, Bisping moved in to take his place against Sonnen.  This short notice has made the anticipation suffer due to a lack of time to build up back-and –forth hype that would have most likely reached a fever pace considering the two combatants. Without a doubt, the fight

UFC 142: Silva vs. Prater fight will be reviewed by the UFC

UFC 142 did not go off without some controversy. At first glance it appeared that Erick Silva was going to get his hand raised after his fight against Carlo Prater was stopped the 29 second mark of Round One. Early signs indicated that the fight would go Silva’s way as he had been raining hammerfists down upon the head of Prater when referee Maria Yamasaki stepped in to end the fight. However, the television camera microphones were picking up whispers from Michael Buffer that made viewers think

Anthony Johnson willing to fight at Light Heavyweight if asked

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson has not always had the best of luck making the Welterweight limit of 170 pounds, in fact at UFC 104, Johnson missed weight by six pounds. At UFC 142 Johnson will put the Welterweight division behind him as he makes his Middleweight debut against Vitor Belfort.
The 10-3 Johnson recently revealed the logic that was behind the move to the 185 pound weight division. “Well when I said back in the day I was gonna fight at 185 that was just to get people talking and it

Jose, whose list of conquered foes contains Urijah Faber and Mike Brown, will be putting his title on the line for the fifth time.
So what makes Chad “Money” Mendes different than Urijah Faber and Mike Brown? That’s the question I asked myself when breaking down the scrap between Aldo and

Books in Review: Kettlebell RX, Marcelo Garcia’s Advanced BJJ, Grappler’s Manifesto

Victory Belt Publishing recently released three instructional sports books; Marcelo Garcia’s Advanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Grapplers Manifesto, and Kettlebell RX. I had an opportunity to review the mentioned above trio. The first that comes to mind when holding a Victory Belt book is the print quality. It feels like a book and looks like a book. The covers are very creative, and will add some color to every bookshelf. Things get serious when you open the book and proceed to its content. The first book

Frank Mir stakes his claim as best HW submission fighter in the UFC

At UFC 140, Frank Mir added a line to his MMA resume as he became the first fighter to ever submit Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. At first glance this may not seem like all that great of an achievement until you peruse Nogueira’s career record. The fight with Mir was his 42nd professional MMA bout and during that time he has fought some of the biggest names in the Heavyweight Division.
Another thing to consider is the fact the Nogueira is considered by some to be the preeminent submission artist in the
