Edson Barboza (10-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) is one of eight finalists in the 2012 ESPY Awards. An ESPY Award (short for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award) is an accolade presented by ESPN to recognize outstanding individual and team athletic achievement. Barboza has been nominated for his wheelhouse kick knock out of Terry Etim at UFC 142 in Brazil this past January.
To say Barboza is elated would be the understatement of the year. His kick earned him a pair of bonuses for both “Knockout of the Night”
Just when you thought the UFC 146 card was finally finished, two more switches have been put into place. Roy Nelson, who thought he was set to fight Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in his UFC debut, found himself facing Gabriel Gonzaga after Silva was thrust into the co-main event versus Cain Velasquez. However, Gonzaga was injured and in steps Dave “Pee Wee” Herman to take his place. The UFC 146 mass Heavyweight shift was put into place by the massively publicized failed drug test
At UFC 142 Edson Barboza ran his record to 10-0 when he stopped Terry Etim at 2:02 of the third round with what was the first spinning wheel kick knockout in UFC history. It was a spectacular finish, straightening Etim’s body as soon as the kick made impact, earning Barboza a handsome bonus for the night as he claimed both “Fight of the Night” and “Knockout of the Night” honors.
Barboza has a huge buzz surrounding him and will move up a level in competition for his next fight
